Ireland's most popular baby names in 2018 have been revealed

IRELAND’S MOST popular baby names in 2018 have been revealed.

The new list, compiled from data collected by the Central Statistics Office, doesn’t throw up much in the way of shocks.

Jack was the most popular name for newborn baby boys in Ireland last year.

It’s a name that has proven enduringly popular on the Emerald Isle, holding on to top spot since 2007, save for 2016 when James was the most popular name.

James was second in 2018, with Noah, Conor and Daniel completing the top five names for boys over the past year.

Emily retained top spot for girls, with Grace, Emma, Sophie and Amelia also among the top five names for parents with newly-born baby girls in 2018.

There were some new arrivals in the top 100 names for boys and girls last year though.

Frankie, Freddie and Theodore were the new entrants among the top 100 for boys last year while Ada, Bella, Bonnie and Ivy joined the top 100 for girls.

Theodore and Frankie climbed 63 and 31 places respectively while Ada rose 67 places going from 137th to 70th between 2017 and 2018.

Ivy also climbed from 137th to 84th over the same 12-month period.

Some less popular names for boys included Diego, Ruan, Casper, Donal and Felix. Less popular girls’ names included Tessa, Mae, Arianna, Faith and Helen.
