Ireland could be heading for a mini 'Indian summer' this weekend

IRELAND’S RECENT run of miserable weather could be about to come to an end with experts predicting a mini ‘Indian summer’ of sorts this weekend.

After weeks of strong winds and torrential rains, the Emerald Isle could be back basking in the kind of warm weather more commonly associated with the months of July and August.

In fact, the summer conditions could see temperatures reach as much as 18c after a week of largely settled weather conditions.

A Met Eireann spokesman confirmed: “Many places will be dry and bright tomorrow, Wednesday, with some good sunny spells.

"Scattered early morning showers, mainly across the west and north will soon become isolated.

"Feeling fresher with highs of 11 to 14 degrees Celsius, as a moderate North to Northwest breeze sets in."

Thursday and Friday are forecast to be mostly dry and sunny with temperatures steadily increasing into the weekend.

"Higher pressures over the south and southeast will ensure that the best of the drier and brighter weather will be in these areas, with dull and damp conditions more prevalent further north and west," Met Eireann said.

"Daytime highs will range 14 to 18 degrees with a mild night on Saturday night. Winds will be mainly light to moderate southwesterly in direction."

The forecast echoes the predictions of Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly who said: "The weekend also looks settled but milder, maybe even 18C with a brief Indian Summer possible!"

Defined as a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather, Indian summers tend to occur during the spring and autumn and are traditionally found in the Northern Hemisphere.

So there will be one more opportunity to break out the deck chairs, at least!
