Where does Dublin rank among the best and worst cities for commuting?

DELAYS AND cancellations. Rising ticket prices. Man spreading as far as the eye can see.

There aren't that many of us out there that would ever describe their daily commute into work as enjoyable. It's pure misery, mainly because of what's waiting at the end of it - work.

But have you ever wondered how bad you have it compared to people living in another city somewhere else in the world?

How does the daily trek into Dublin compare, for example, to the slog of trying to get into Manchester or London, or even New York? Is it better or worse?

Expert Market has, which is why they have gone and put together an official ranking of the best and worst cities in the world for commuters.

A total of 74 cities with a population of 300,000 or more, from across 16 different countries, were looked at as part of the study.

Key factors included the average time spent commuting each day, the average wait time for a bus and/or train each day and the average journey distance one day.

The percentage of commuters who make at least one change as part of their journey was also a consideration in developing the findings.

The results will make for better reading among Dubliners than they do anyone commuting to either Manchester or London with the Irish capital ranking ahead of both.

Dublin came 41st in the ranking of the best cities for commuting, which is nevertheless ahead of Manchester (53rd), Birmingham (58) and London (65).

New York, meanwhile, came in at 57th, with journey times averaging out at around 87 minutes one day.

Brazil's Rio De Janeiro is considered the worst city for commuting with an average commute time of 95 minutes one way.

London had average commute times of 84 minutes, by comparison, while Dublin's came in around 65 minutes.

Nice, in France, was ranked best with commutes of just 40 minutes per person on average while Leicester was the best of the UK cities, in 10th, despite commute averages of 52 minutes.
