A MAN who appeared at a District Court in Donegal is accused of going to the toilet on the counter of the Garda station.
21-year-old Michael Brennan reportedly broke into the Garda station in Lifford to steal items such as Garda hats, handcuffs, a Garda vest, a torch, a diary and two Garda radios.
The CCTV installed in the station captured Mr Brennan going to the toilet on the counter of the Garda station while wearing a Garda hat. Mr Brennan was seen defecating in the area in the early hours of 5 am.
According to The Irish Times, the faecal matter left on the counter was tested with a swab to determine who was accountable for the burglary.
Mr Brennan left the station on the night in question and continued to walk down to Bridge Street wearing the Garda hat before being stopped by PSNI in Strabane.
PSNI subsequently arrested him and Mr Brennan was sentenced to three months imprisonment for the possession of stolen goods.
Mr Brennan's case is to be adjourned for the 11th of June as Gardaí await his €225 fine for the cleaning of the defecation.
