A YOUNG Irishman has died after being struck by a lorry in Austin, Texas.
RTÉ reports that the man, aged in his early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Friday morning, local time.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is liaising with the family.
The young man, believed to be from Dublin, is thought to have been on holiday with friends at the time.
Officer Vino Cadenas of the Austin Police Department said that the driver of a lorry called 911 at around 5.29am on Friday to say he believed he had struck a pedestrian trying to cross Interstate Highway 35.
Officer Cadenas added that the driver of a second vehicle called to say he believed he had also struck the pedestrian following the initial collision with the lorry.
Both drivers stopped at the scene.
