A WOMAN in Wexford was attacked walking home from her work Christmas party.
27-year-old Amy Hayes was en route home and alone when she was brutally attacked.
Reports say the young woman was walking when she was punched, kicked and attacked on George's Street in Co. Wexford.
According to Wexford People, the attack occurred at 3 am on Sunday morning when the woman was walking alone. The assault was completely unprovoked.
The woman was fortunate enough to escape and was brought to Wexford General Hospital for treatment for injuries incurred in the attack.
Speaking to the regional newspaper, Hayes' sister spoke of the malicious nature of the assault on Amy: "She is bruised from head to toe and she has broken bones in her nose.
"She fought back so hard. He kicked the living daylights out of her. The fight in her saved her life."
Hayes' sister also mentioned that it was not an attack to try and rob Amy, but rather a completely unprovoked display of violence: "This was an unprovoked attack with excessive violence. No personal belongings were taken.
"She is bruised from head to toe and she has broken bones under her nose...It's the brutality of it."
Amy Hayes is said to be recovering in Waterford University Hospital where she was transferred to on Sunday evening.
