MERSEYSIDE POLICE are appealing for information following a tragic road traffic collision on St Patrick’s night at a busy junction in Liverpool.
Emergency services were called at 10.50pm following reports that two females had been in collision with a Ford C-Max car at the junction of West Derby Road and Boundary Lane, close to the Liverpool Irish Centre building.
A 30-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were taken to hospital where the 30-year-old woman was later pronounced dead. The 22-year-old remains in a serious condition.
Many St Patrick’s Day party-goers who were leaving celebrations by the Liverpool Irish Centre witnessed the incident.
Richie Billing, manager at the centre, said that the crash was a tragedy for the surrounding community and that three customers, who had been chatting outside the centre, ran to help the women.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway.
A reader of The Irish Post who got in touch with information regarding the incident said that he had crossed that road at the same spot an hour before with a disabled friend and cited it as being a poorly-lit stretch of road with cars frequently speeding.
