A WOMAN has died in Ireland this evening after being hit by a train.
An Irish Rail spokesperson confirmed the woman was struck and fatally injured near Limerick at around 5.30pm this evening.
The incident occurred near the Killonan level crossing on the outskirts of the city and involved the Dublin to Limerick train.
Emergency services attended the scene of the incident, which saw the Limerick–Tipperary road closed at Killonan.
The road has since been reopened however bus transfers have been put in place from Limerick to Limerick Junction, and Limerick to Ballybrophy via Nenagh.
Gardaí from Roxboro Road confirmed they were dealing with an incident at Killonan crossing but were unable to provide further information.
