A WOMAN is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked with a cordless drill in Strabane, Co. Tyrone.
The attack, which took place in the Railway Street area at around 2am, left the woman, 38, with a serious head injury.
A 17-year-old male is being questioned by detectives in relation to the incident.
The PSNI have said they are considering a possible “homophobic motive” for the attack.
Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said: “This was a brutal attack and the injuries sustained by the victim are extremely grave.
“We are exploring a possible homophobic motive for the crime and we are appealing for witnesses to get in touch with us.”
The victim remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
The PSNI are continuing to examine the scene.
