Woman and her baby seriously injured in crash in Northern Ireland

FOLLOWING a three-vehicle road crash in the Belfast area, a woman has died.

The woman was reportedly driving along the A2 road between Bangor, Co. Down and Belfast when she crashed on the road.

According to The Belfast Telegraph,  the incident happened on Friday afternoon in the vicinity of the Ballyrobert junction. While the woman tragically died in the crash, the baby was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children where they are fighting for their life.

The driver of one of the other vehicles was taken to Ulster Hospital for treatment of his injuries obtained in the crash.

Local councillor for North Down Stephen Dunne said the incident occurred at a very busy junction — which unfortunately is known for its proneness for car accidents.

Councillor Dunne commented on the need for more increased road safety on the roads of Northern Ireland: "My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been injured and their families. It’s an awful thing to have happened...

"The average speed cameras have made a difference — but clearly it’s not enough. I know there have been discussions on the matter — but we need to keep pushing for improvements."
