A WOMAN has been arrested as part of the investigation into the death of two-year-old toddler Santina Cawley.
Cawley died at a residence in Cork back on July 5.
The two-year-old girl was found with severe injuries at the Elderwood apartment complex on the Boreenmanna Road.
Gardaí later upgraded their investigation to a murder probe following a post-mortem examination of Santina's body by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster.
They also launched an appeal for anyone who was in the Elderwood apartment complex between 4pm on Thursday, July 4 and 6am on Friday, July 5 who has not already spoken to detectives to come forward.
Now a garda spokesperson has confirmed that a woman has been arrested and is due in court in relation to the case.
“A 35-year-old female was arrested this morning August 21, 2019 in connection with the murder of a two-year-old infant girl on the July 5, 2019,” the spokesperson said.
“She is expected to appear before Cork District Court, Anglesea St, Cork at 10.30am this morning, Wednesday, August 21, 2019.”
