A WOMAN has died following a tragic accident in the driveway of her home in County Carlow.
35-year-old Fiona Whelan was killed when her car rolled forward and knocked her down in the driveway of her home in Hacketstown, County Carlow on Saturday, 11 April.
It is understood that the vehicle was turned off when it rolled forward and struck her at approximately 3.20pm.
Emergency services attended the scene but Ms Whelan was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.
The Irish Times reports that the vehicle has been seized in order for it to undergo a technical examination, and while investigations are ongoing, Gardaí have stated that they are treating her death as "a tragic accident".
Ms Whelan, who owned a café in Baltinglass, County Wicklow, has been described as "a very special person" who was "respected and appreciated" by all those who knew her, according to a statement from the town's information page Baltinglass Matters.
“The unexpected loss of such a vibrant young woman has left us stunned.”
Ms Whelan is mourned by her partner Michael, parents Mary and Jimmy, brother Declan, sister Siobhán, nephew Jack, her extended family and many friends.
Covid-19 measures means that Ms Whelan's funeral will be strictly private, but dozens of people have written to the family to express their deepest condolences.
