Wild week of weather on the way for Ireland

IRELAND'S national forecaster, Met Eireann, has issued a status yellow warning for the entire country with winds expected to reach 110 km/hr.

The warning was issued at 11 this morning and is valid from 8 o’ clock tomorrow evening through to 6 am on Wednesday morning.

Southwest winds are expected to reach mean speeds of between 55 and 65 km/hr, gusting to 110 km/hr at times on Tuesday night.

Today promises to be the most tolerable day this week, so make the most of it while you can.

It’s set to remain mostly dry before the winds pick up tonight, with “just a few patches of mist and drizzle” and temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.

Outbreaks of rain will commence across the country tonight and will continue throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly in the north and west of the country, with a risk of hail and thunder on Wednesday night, especially in Atlantic coastal counties.

According to Met Eireann: “The rain will be heaviest and most persistent in the west and northwest but rather patchy elsewhere.

“A misty night with minimum temperatures of 4C to 7C in northern counties but temperatures will rise to between 9C and 11C in all areas later in the night.

“Winds will increase fresh to strong, south or southwest in direction.”

The risk of hail and thunder will remain on Thursday when showers will threaten to become wintry at times ahead of a cool night when frost will be “fairly widespread” throughout the country.

Friday will offer a brief respite with some dry and bright conditions throughout the day before the weekend brings even more wet and unsettled conditions.
