MOST parents don’t expect to hear much more than a cry or a gurgle out of their babies until they are at least 18 months old, but little Cillian McCann from Belfast just couldn’t wait to get his first word out at just seven weeks.
The heart-warming moment can be heard in this video posted by drama teacher mum Toni McCann, who in the 23 second clip is heard gently cooing and saying ‘hello’ to her baby son.
The video has since gone viral after being posted on Toni’s Facebook page.
"Loads of people have said it's really brightened their day, which is lovely,” Toni, 36, told the Belfast Telegraph. “He was trying to talk, I thought, the whole day. His wee tongue kept coming out and I thought 'is he trying to speak to me?' so I set him in his chair and started saying 'hello'.
"I was just waiting and thought 'he's trying to say hello' but when he actually said it I nearly died.”
And when asked if he’s said anything since Toni, who is married to husband Paul and is also mum to three daughters, added: “He hasn't said anything since but you can tell when he’s trying. When he flicks his tongue in a certain way, you know he wants to say something.
"I think it might have been just a one off but he is really trying to communicate. Now I realise what babies can actually do. I think they understand more than what we think they do."
