WATCH: Heartbreaking CCTV footage shows 'sick' dog being abandoned by its owners in middle of night in Dublin

THIS is the heart-wrenching footage of a dog being abandoned by its owners during the middle of the night in Dublin.

The video, which was released by Dog's Trust, shows two people walking with their Rottweiler up to the entrance of a rehoming centre in Finglas, before tying the dog to the gate and walking off.

The poor pooch was left there for over seven hours, and was found shivering the next morning by members of staff at the centre.

In the footage, Beau - as the centre would later name her - is seen lying on the side of the road, before a staff member notices her and comes to greet her.

After she was brought in from the cold, she was discovered to have a number of tumours, as well as chronic ear infection that was causing her head to tilt to one side.

"I went to open the rehoming centre gates, just before 7:30am and found the dog, who we named Beau, attached to the gates," said Eimear Cassidy, Operations Assistant Manager of Dogs Trust Ireland.

"She was immediately friendly and very pleased to see me, which made it even more upsetting when I reviewed the CCTV footage and saw she had been abandoned just before midnight.

"I burst into tears when I realised, she had spent over seven hours in the cold, on her own, just lying there, especially given the fact that we have an emergency number stuck to the gate.

"It wasn't until I took her indoors into the light, that I saw the tumours hanging from her undercarriage and that her head was tilted to one side."

The charity is now urging people to contact them directly if they're struggling to look after their pets properly.
