THIS is the heat-pounding moment a police officer managed to save the life of an infant who was struggling to breathe, as her terrified family watched on.
The incident occurred last Thursday in Detroit, Michigan.
Dash-cam footage from officer Cameron Maciejewski's patrol car showed him pulling up to a residential home before being confronted by an extremely frantic woman, presumed to be the baby's mother.
After explaining that the child wasn't breathing, the officer demonstrates great bravery and poise by calmly taking the baby in his arms and performing back thrusts in attempts to clear her air way.
"Hold on, let me see the baby," officer Maciejewski says as his mother understandably panics around him.
After a few moments, the baby's airwaves are cleared and she begins breathing again.
"The baby's crying … she's crying, she's breathing … she's OK," Maciejewski can be heard saying.
"She's got a pulse and she's breathing, OK".
The infant was later taken to a nearby fire station for a medical check up but reports suggest she is in good health.
"If it wasn't for Ofc. Maciejewski's quick, calm, lifesaving actions, the outcome of this incident could have been tragically different. Not only did the officer save the baby, but the officer did an outstanding job consoling the family," the police department stated on Facebook.
What a hero.
President Donald Trump's son Eric took to Twitter, using the incident to condemn those who over the last few weeks and months have supported the idea of defunding the police.
"This is why you don't defund the police," he wrote.
Defunding the police is a notion that is widely supported by the Black Lives Matter movement.
It looks to reduce law enforcement funding and spread it across areas which can better serve local communities instead.
