A 90-YEAR-OLD man in Belfast self-isolating because of coronavirus received a welcome surprise this week after a pint of Guinness was delivered to his door.
Susan McMahon-Jess decided to treat her dad, Jim, to a freshly-poured pint of the black stuff after learning about local pub The Hatfield House’s door-to-door delivery service.
Eager to diversify and cater to a customer base largely stuck indoors during the pandemic, the pub has set up a mobile Guinness delivery service.
Using a van kitted out with a pump and barrel, they have been able to hand over pints of the classic Irish stout while adhering to the Irish government’s strict rules on social distancing.
After hearing about the innovative service, Susan decided her dad would benefit from a pint.
With anyone over the age of 65 advised to remain indoors to avoid catching the deadly virus, the current lockdown has proven a testing but necessary time for so many across the country.
But while Jim may well be going a little stir crazy, this past week saw him receive a much-welcome pick-me-up ahead of a few more weeks behind closed doors.
Best of all, someone was on hand to capture the moment he was surprised with a freshly-poured pint of draft Guinness.
Posting the clip onto Facebook, it's clear the surprise not only made Jim’s day but also his daughter Susan’s too.
Writing on social media, Susan admitted she initially thought the servicewas “a wind up” but made the call anyway.
The results proved magical for all involved.
“I personally can never thank them enough,” Susan said.
“Today has been amazing especially for this 90-year-old.”
Sláinte, Jim!
