A WEATHER WARNING has been issued over snow and ice set to spread across 18 Irish counties as temperatures plummet below freezing.
The Status Yellow weather warning comes just one day after Met Éireann warned of temperatures below -5 overnight and into tomorrow.
Met Éireann said temperatures will drop to as low as -5C tonight with a widespread sharp or severe frost as well as the risk of ice on untreated surfaces, leading to hazardous driving conditions.
This morning, the weather authority issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning with 'treacherous conditions' and likely by Tuesday morning.
Up to 3cm of snow is possible in some areas tomorrow evening, according to Met Éireann.
The warning comes into effect from 6pm this evening until 4am on Tuesday morning and covers Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, East Cork, Tipperary and Waterford.
Tuesday morning will be cold and bright with sunny spells and scattered showers of rain, sleet and snow with temperatures up to 5 degrees with fresh, gusty northwest winds.
It will be cold and frosty on Tuesday night with some showers of sleet or snow and a widespread sharp or severe frost will follow with icy patches. Lowest temperatures of -4 to +1 degrees.
