Warning in place for Ireland as strong Gale force winds set to hit west coast

A WEATHER warning is in place for Ireland as strong gale winds are set to hit north-western counties. 

The weather warning comes just one day after Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow warning for 13 counties as heavy rains and spot flooding descended on some parts of the country.

A Status Yellow warning is to notify those in affected areas to be aware of adverse weather conditions.

The Irish weather authority issued today's Status Yellow warning as gale force winds are set to hit the west of Ireland counties.

From 2pm today until Friday afternoon, winds of up to 65km are expected to blow across Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Clare and Kerry.

On the Atlantic coastal fringes of the west and north west of the country, gusts of up to 100km are expected.

Elsewhere in the country, outbreaks of rain and drizzle will move from the Atlantic coastal counties, spreading eastwards during the course of this afternoon and evening, with highs of 14 to 16 degrees.

The rain will clear the from the east coast overnight, with most of the night dry and clear with lows of 9 or 10 degrees, however a few showers will develop in the west and southwest.

Winds mainly moderate to fresh southwest in direction but staying strong to very strong and gusty along Atlantic coasts.
