A MAJOR police operation is underway toevacuate buildings and secure London Bridge and the surrounding areas after the earlier incident on London Bridge at approximately 2pm this afternoon.
At least five people were injured in what Metropolitan Police are describing as a 'stabbing incident', with unconfirmed reports indicating that one person may have died.
Despite confirmation that the attacker was shot by police, it is currently unclear whether he is the reported fatality, as the Metropolitan Police earlier reported that they had detained the suspect.
Police have stressed that the circumstances relating to the incident are currently unclear, but said "as a precaution, we are currently responding to this incident as though it is terror-related".
A number of vidoes posted to social media appear to indicate that the public may have had a hand in the suspect's capture.
One video of the incident shows a male suspect being tackled by civilians, with one man appearing to take a large knife from the suspect.
Another man, also believed to be a civilian, is then forcibly pulled from the suspect by armed police, who appear to then fire two shots at the suspect.
The police investigation is ongoing and the public are being urged to stay away from the area if possible.
