US president Donald Trump to be taken to hospital after contracting Covid-19

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump is being taken to hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

The United States President confirmed at around 6am GMT this morning that he had tested positive for the virus, and has now been moved to hospital as a precaution.

Both Donald Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, tested positive for the virus and were reported to be experiencing minor symptoms.

He had received a cocktail  of drugs as a "precautionary measure" the White House said earlier today, and was feeling "fatigued but in good spirits".

He is now being moved to a special suite in a hospital as a precautionary measure in order for him to receive immediate care if it is needed, a White House official has said.

It is understood that the president will be moved to Walter Reed National Medical Centre via helicopter as a precaution, as due to his age and weight he could be considered a high-risk patient.

The US president, who is 74 years old, received an outpouring of support earlier today when it was confirmed that both he and his wife had tested positive for the virus.

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden sent his best wishes to Donald and Melania Trump earlier today, writing on Twitter:

"Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery.

“We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family."

The Bidens have both tested negative for Covid-19 following a precautionary test after Mr Trump and Mr Biden went head-to-head in the first Presidential debate earlier this week.

Mr Trump is said to be in 'good spirits' and will continue working, according to US media reports.
