A MAN thought to be the first Briton to have contracted the deadly coronavirus claims to have cured himself by drinking whiskey.
25-year-old Connor Reed revealed to The Sun that he refused to take any antibiotics to treat the virus and instead used an inhaler and “drank a hot whisky with honey until that ran out.”
Reed moved to Wuhan, the Chinese city at the centre of the viral outbreak, last summer to take up a job teaching English.
However, he ended up being hospitalised two months ago after developing a cough so bad he was struggling to breathe.
More than 360 people have died from coronavirus to date, but Reed soon found himself on the mend thanks to his regular whiskey and honey combos.
“It’s an old-fashioned remedy but it seemed to do the trick,” he told The Sun. “I am proof coronavirus can be beaten.”
Discharged after just two weeks in hospital, Reed was stunned to learn he had been diagnosed with the deadly virus, which has hit 17,000 people globally.
“I was stunned when the doctors told me I was suffering from the virus,” he said.
“I thought I was going to die but I managed to beat it.”
The official guidance for anyone suffering from coronavirus is distinctly different from Reed's solution.
According to the World Health Organisation, coronavirus symptoms of the include a cough, sore throat, high temperature, fatigue or difficulty breathing.
Symptoms are thought to appear between two and 10 days after contracting the virus.
