UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds announce birth of ‘healthy baby boy’

UK PRIME Minister Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds have announced the birth of a “healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning”.

The child is the couple’s first together.

Both mother and baby are said to be doing very well since the birth, according to an official spokesperson.

“The prime minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well,” the spokesperson said.

“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”

Mr Johnson is expected to miss today’s Prime Minister’s Question Time as a result of the birth.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan was among those to congratulate Johnson and Symonds following the birth.

"Sending my warmest congratulations to @BorisJohnson and Carrie Symonds on the safe arrival of their baby boy this morning," he tweeted.

Northern Ireland’s first minister, Arlene Foster, also tweeted her congratulations.

"Wonderful news of the birth of a baby boy! Many congratulations to the PM @BorisJohnso and @carriesymonds. More sleepless nights ahead!" she wrote.

Mr Johnson will reportedly be taking some paternity leave but, given the ongoing situation, that is likely to be later this year.
