A SPECIAL 50p coin is set to be issued to mark the UK's departure from the European Union next year, according to reports.
Chancellor Philip Hammond will reportedly unveil the commemorative seven-sided coin when he makes his 2019 Budget speech later today (October 29).
The coin should be available from March 29 next year - the day Brexit is expected to finally become a reality.
It is understood that the coin will feature the words "Friendship With All Nations".
Details of the announcement were first reported by The Sun, which has been campaigning for the UK Government to "commemorate" Brexit with such a move.
A special 50p coin was struck when the UK joined the European Economic Community in 1973, as well as when the UK held the presidency of the EU in 1998.
But news of a potential Brexit coin has been met with ridicule on social media, with many comparing it to the blue passport fiasco earlier this year:
Brexit so far amounts to: a blue passport, a cheap looking 50p coin and a shitty festival on the South bank.

I’m sure the Brexity quality of the 50p coin will be of great comfort when it’s not even worth enough to buy a solitary fucking Freddo bar pic.twitter.com/Cc1m5veQRw

Things less welcome than the Brexit 'celebratory' 50p:
- Monday Mornings.
- A Mrs Brown's Boys 2 hour long Xmas special.
- A dick pic from Donald Trump.
- Dinner with the in-laws.
- Being given a Cliff Richard Calendar for Christmas.
- A dose of the clap.— Pearly (@londonlass666) 29 October 2018
