University College Cork (UCC) has been ranked as the world's number two "green" university for the second year running.
The Irish university was runner-up to the University of Nottingham, which secured the top spot for a second successive year.
The latest Universitas Indonesia (UI) Greenmetric World University Ranking compared 360 universities in 62 countries in categories such as green statistics, energy and climate change, waste management, transport, and education around green issues.
UCC also claimed the second spot for the "urban" campus category. The university’s energy efficiency record means that it is likely meet the national target of a 33 per cent reduction by 2020.
The University of Limerick is the next Irish university to follow UCC, ranked 11th.
Dublin City University placed 53rd, Trinity College Dublin, 104th and Dublin Institute of Technology, 193rd.
