TWO LIVERPOOL have been assaulted in Naples, according to Merseyside Police.
The Reds supporters were in Italy to watch the team in Champions League action against Napoli.
The Partenopei ran out 2-0 winners on the night but the game was marred by the news that two fans were attacked in a city centre bar.
According to Merseyside police, the pair suffered “cuts and grazes” to the head in the attack but were well enough to attend the match.
A police statement read: "We can confirm two Liverpool fans were reported to have been assaulted in Naples earlier today.
"At around 6pm local time (5pm GMT), it was reported a number of males on scooters approached the fans at a bar in the city before assaulting them.
"Two men from the UK, aged 26 and 46, sustained superficial cuts and grazes to the head and were treated at the scene before continuing to attend the match.
"Local police are aware and Merseyside Police are working with police colleagues in Naples to assist in the policing of the Champions League fixture."
The incident comes more than a year on from the attack that saw Irish Liverpool fan Sean Cox was attacked by Roma fans outside Anfield just prior to a Champion’s League semi-final encounter at the ground.
The Irish father-of-three suffered life-altering brain injuries at the hands of his attacks and has required around the clock care ever since.
