THREE GARDAÍ have been injured while trying to enforce Covid-19 regulations in County Donegal.
Media reports suggest a number of Gardaí were attending the scene of a house party in Milford when they were assaulted.
In a statement from An Garda Síochána, a spokesperson confirmed the incident took place on Saturday, 13 March at around midday, when Gardaí were alerted to "potential breaches of Public Health Regulations" at a rented property in Milford.
According to The Irish Times, eight people had travelled from Northern Ireland to the property in rural Donegal, and drew the attention of locals when they began uploading photographs of a party at the rented property.
Gardaí engaged with those present utilising the '4Es' approach --engage, explain, encourage, enforce-- in support of the Public Health Regulations, however during the course of engagement, three members of An Garda Síochána were assaulted by those inside the property.
Two officers were brought to Letterkenny University Hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, while a third was treated at the scene.
Two men were arrested and later charged in relation to the assault of the Gardaí, and are due to appear before Letterkenny District Court a the end of this month.
A third male, a teenaer, was arrested for public order offences but has since been released without charge pending consideration for the Adult Caution scheme.
A small amount of cocaine was also seized during the incident, An Garda Síochána have confirmed.
Investigations are ongoing.
