Two fire fighters injured as twelve units battle blaze at Cork timber factory

TWO fire fighters have been injured while tackling a fire at a commercial timber factory in County Cork.

The two fire fighters were among twelve units who are currently dealing with a large fire at a commercial premises in Co Cork.

The blaze at Lissarda, which is west of Cork city, started early this morning.

Gardaí arrived at the scene at around 5am, and a large explosion occurred at around 6.30am.

The two firefighters were injured in the blast and were brought to Cork University Hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

It appears that during their efforts to control and contain the blaze that a small explosion took place within the factory complex.

Both men were partially caught in the blast.

Fire brigade officials said the fire was quite extensive and the nature of the blaze made extinguishing it quite challenging.

The situation is ongoing.
