TWITTER HAS confirmed it will transfer the official US Presidential account to Joe Biden on Inauguration Day-- whether or not Donald Trump accepts defeat.
A spokesperson for the social media giant confirmed to Politico that ownership of the account will be transferred to President-elect Biden at noon on the day of the inauguration, regardless of whether incumbent President Trump concedes the election.
The White House, Vice President and other Twitter accounts will also be transferred to the relevant Biden administration officials, a spokesperson for Twitter confirmed.
"Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021," spokesperson Nick Pacilio told the outlet.
"As we did for the presidential transition in 2017, this process is being done in close consultation with the National Archives and Records Administration."
At noon on Inauguration Day, the official Presidential account will be reset to have zero tweets, and all information from the previous account owner will be wiped, meaning there will be no transfer of information between the two administrations.
President Trump has insisted that the election was rigged, and has accused multiple states of widespread voter fraud, taking out a barrage of legal cases since the results started coming in on 3 November.
The official Presidential Account is managed by his team, and Mr Trump tends to tweet from his personal account, @realdonaldtrump, an account he has held for years.
Donald Trump will keep control of his personal account, but since the election, many of his tweets have contained warnings from Twitter that his claims of election fraud are disputed.
