Tributes to 'happy, bubbly' mum and nurse who died on family holiday in Turkey

TRIBUTES have been paid to a mother from Northern Ireland who passed away while on holiday on Turkey.

Séaneen McCullough, from New Barnsley in West Belfast, died when she fell from a balcony while holidaying with her partner and son.

Police are investigating to establish the exact circumstances around the 37-year-old nurse’s death, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

'Outgoing and fun-loving'

In a statement on Facebook, the Mater Hospital branch of the UNISON union paid tribute to their ‘great friend’ from the North Belfast hospital.

“It is with deep regret that we learn of the tragic passing of our friend, colleague and UNISON member, Séaneen McCullough,” said the statement.

“On 11th July, Séaneen sadly passed away following a fall from a balcony while on holiday in Turkey with her son Eoin and partner Paul.

“Séaneen was a very outgoing and fun-loving person and a great friend to many. Séaneen was a nurse in Ward C in the Mater Hospital and a valued member of the staff team.

“UNISON Mater Hospital branch would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to Séaneen’s family, friends and colleagues in the Mater Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.”

Meanwhile a statement from her son’s football team, Willowbank FC, expressed their condolences at the tragedy.

“It was with deep regret we learned of the tragic and untimely passing of Séaneen McCullough, mother of Under 14s player Eoin McCullough while on holiday in Turkey and the whole club would like to pass on our condolences to Eoin and the rest of the family,” said the club.

Meanwhile a fundraising page set up to assist the family with travel and funeral costs has exceeded its £2,000 target.

In a matter of hours, almost £5,000 has been raised on the JustGiving page, which said: “Séaneen touched so many people’s hearts with her happy, bubbly, infectious personality. Her kind heart and caring nature will be missed by everyone.”
