Tributes paid to young father-of-three who died in farming accident

TRIBUTES have been paid to a young father-of-three who died in a farming accident in Co. Down.

Toirdealbhach Larkin, who was in his 20s, died after sustaining crush-type injuries at a farm near the Kinallen Road area of Katesbridge at around 10.30am on Friday.

He was the son of Mickey Larkin, Sinn Féin councillor for Slieve Gullion on Newry and Mourne District Council.

His party colleague Megan Fearon, MLA for Newry and Mourne, was among those to offer her condolences.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened at the news of the tragic death of Toirdealbhach,” said Ms Fearon.

“The thoughts and prayers of all are with Toirdealbhach’s family as they come to terms with the news of his tragic death and I extend my condolences to them on behalf of myself and Sinn Féin.”

Local Gaelic club Dromintee GAC also paid their repects to Mr Larkin on Facebook.

“The committee and members of Dromintee GAC deeply regret the death of Toirdealbhach Larkin, son of local councillor and loyal club supporter Mickey Larkin,” said the statement.

“We tender deepest sympathy to Mickey and to the entire family circle on this sad occasion.

“Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.”

The Health and Safety Executive have been informed of the incident.
