A MAN in his 40s has died after he crashed into a concrete column on a motorway in the south of Ireland.
The motorist, 44, with the column at 3.10pm yesterday on the M8 road just past junction seven southbound in the townland of Ballyknock, Cashel in Co. Tipperary.
The man was the only person in the car during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem will now take place.
The motorway was closed for a forensic examination but has since reopened.
A spokeswoman for An Garda Siochana said: “The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has now reopened.
“Gardaí wish to appeal for any witnesses to contact them at Cashel Garda Station on 062 75840, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.”
