A FISHERMAN has died after his boat overturned off the Connemara coast in Co. Galway.
The local man, aged 62, died yesterday evening when his vessel capsized close to Crow Island at around 6pm.
It is understood he was alone on the boat at the time of the accident.
The man was recovered from Kilkieran Bay by the RNLI and airlifted to University College Hospital Galway by the Coast Guard.
However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A post-mortem is due to be carried out on his remains on Thursday.
Local Gardai have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances of the tragic accident.
A Garda spokesman said: "It is believed he was on his own at the time."
The Marine Casualty Board will also investigate the death.
