THE FIRST full trailer for Toy Story 4 has landed with Woody, Buzz and all the familiar favourites joined by a few new additions.
Chief among this is Forky, a plastic fork given sentient life by Andy’s young sister Bonnie during a day of arts and crafts day school.
Forky doesn’t fancy a career as a child’s toy though and, during a trip away in the family’s RV, decides to make a daring escape for it, preferring to see out his days at the bottom of a bin instead.
Woody is having none of that though and gives chase in a rescue mission that eventually leaves him stranded with only the nihilistic Forky for company.
They soon stumble upon a familiar face though in the form of Woody’s once-scorned ex, Little Bo Peep.
She’s now living out her days in some kind of renegade toy utopia, complete with funfairs and discos and all sorts of fun and furthermore, she wants Woody to join her.
Forky is just along for the ride at this point, having evidently had second thoughts about a life spent crushed under an ever-mounting pile of rubbish.
It’s not long before Buzz is back on the scene too, trying to rescue Woody through a combination of mishaps involving his attempts at flying and some amusing monologues.
However, things are further complicated when it becomes apparent that Woody is is starting to have doubts about his place in life.
The official synopsis reads:
“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie.
“But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”
Heartwarming, humorous and ever-so-slightly existential, Toy Story 4 is guaranteed to have kids and adults alike bawling their eyes out, if this trailer is anything to go by.
Toy Story 4 will land in cinemas on June 21st, 2019.
