TOURISM Ireland is hoping to persuade 10 per cent of all Indian tourists heading for Britain in the next two years to make a stop in Ireland also.
Ireland’s Ambassador to India, Feilim McLaughlin, said that the organisation aims to target 36,000 Indian tourists to Ireland within the next two years, after the launch of the British Irish Visa Scheme.
Ambassador McLaughlin was speaking at an event in Delhi, run by Tourism Ireland and VisitBritain, to promote tourism to the two countries.
The visa scheme was extended to include India last month, in an effort to boost the number of tourists who travel between Britain and Ireland in a single trip.
The number of Indian nationals visiting Ireland has increased significantly in the last five years, with the country notching up 25,000 tourists from India last year alone.
Ambassador McLaughlin also stated that he hopes the visa scheme will be extended further, to include more countries, down the line.
