Together for Yes donation page hacked in cyber attack

CAMPAIGN group Together for Yes say their online donations page was hacked from within Ireland.

The group, who formed to encourage people to vote Yes in the upcoming Eighth Amendment referendum, has said that its fundraising site shut down yesterday for a half hour due to a domestic cyber-attack.

The hack took place at 5.45pm, a time which Together for Yes say would “ordinarily be a peak time for donations”.

Together for Yes spokesperson, Sarah Monaghan, said: “We are continuing to investigate this extremely serious incident and are actively consulting security experts in the field to help identify the specific source of the attack, and have made a report to the Gardai.

“Together for Yes is a national grassroots movement which relies on small donations from large numbers of people.

“Our crowdfund initiative is a core element of the matter in which we resource our campaign and therefore we would take extremely seriously any attempt to undermine it.”

CauseVox, an American crowdfunding site which hosts the donation page on behalf of Together For Yes, said that the site was purposefully bombarded with requests to a point where it shuts down.

They also confirmed that the attack came from within Ireland.
