A YOUNG child has been admitted to an intensive care unit at a hospital in Ireland with coronavirus.
According to the latest report from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre [via Irish Mirror] the is child under the age of four.
No other details concerning the gender, location or precise age of the infant have been released by health officials.
The child is thought to be the youngest Covid-19 patient to be admitted to ICU in Ireland since the pandemic began here.
The HPSC was first notified of the admission last week.
It is not clear, at this stage, whether the younger has another underlying condition or not.
So far just three children under the age of 14 with the coronavirus have required intensive care in Ireland.
In total, just 26 kids under the age of four have needed hospital treatment for the killer bug.
The majority of patients requiring intensive care have been over the age of 55.
At the time of writing, just six people with the coronavirus remain in ICUs in Ireland.
Just 48 people are currently being treated for the virus in Irish hospitals.
Despite the low hospital numbers, Ireland is continuing to see a spike in cases of the virus in several regions, including Dublin and Limerick.
Plans for localised restrictions in both areas are currently being discussed.
