A THUG who violently attacked another man as he attempted to use a cash point has been jailed.
Aaron Murphy, of Attleborogh Road in Nuneaton, has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars following an assault causing grievous bodily harm in Bedworth in Warwickshire.
The 21-year-old attacked his victim as he approached a cash point outside a shop in Park Road at around 9pm on September 6, 2023.
CCTV showed Murphy approach the victim when he was making his way to the cashpoint outside the store.
He then unleashed a violent attach which saw him throw more than twenty punches at his victim before leaving him lying unconscious on the pavement with serious head injuries which required hospital treatment.
Murphy appeared before Warwick Crown Court on November 1, 2024 where he was sentenced to four years in prison for the attack.
This was combined with 11 years for aggravated burglary and three years for robbery, following investigations led by West Midlands Police, meaning he was sentenced to a combined total of 18 years in prison.
“Murphy committed an act of violence which resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries and falling unconscious – at which point, he walked away and left him on the pavement,” Warwickshire Police’s DS Rich Walker said this week.
“As his other contemporary sentencings for activities over the border in the West Midlands show, this is a pattern of violent behaviour for Murphy,” he added.
“He has earnt every single second of the 18 years he is about to spend behind bars.
“By the time he gets out the world will have moved on without him – we hope this gives him food for thought.”
