Three teenagers charged over Belfast riots

THREE teenagers have been charged with offences related to the riots which erupted in Belfast over the summer.

Violence and disorder exploded on the city’s streets on August 3 in response to the stabbing of three young girls in Southport, England.

Further outbreaks continued in the days that followed.

Police investigating the disorder have charged three more people to court in connection with the incidents, they confirmed yesterday afternoon.

A 19-year-old was charged with two counts of riot, arson, criminal damage and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He is due before Belfast Magistrates Court on October 18.

A 17-year-old boy, who was charged with riot, two counts of arson and criminal damage, is due before Belfast Youth Court on October 14.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with riot and is due to appear before Belfast Youth Court on October 21.

The PSNI has confirmed there has been 48 arrests and 38 charges in relation to the disorder in Belfast.

The cost of the policing operation since August 3 is estimated at £3.5m.
