Theresa May suffers huge defeat as Commons overwhelmingly rejects Brexit deal

BRITISH Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered a huge defeat after the House of Commons overwhelmingly rejected her Brexit deal.

MPs voted 432 to 202 to reject the deal, the 230-vote loss representing the largest government defeat in history.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has now tabled a vote of no confidence in the government.

Mrs May now has until Monday to table a plan B.

However the EU has indicated it is not willing to renegotiate the Withdrawal Agreement.

In a statement tonight, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said he was disappointed with the defeat.

However he said the European Commission “will continue its contingency work to help ensure the EU is fully prepared” for a no-deal Brexit.
