The public can vote on key sites for 1916 Rising walking tour

HAVE you been trying to think of a way to contribute to the centenary celebrations of the Easter Rising?

Now you will have the chance to vote on the most important sites in Irish history.

Developers at University College Dublin have been working hard on a walking history app to be released in time for next year’s 100th anniversary of the fight for Irish independence.

The idea is simple – the app will act as your audio guide to the history of the capital during the 1916 Rising.

And there is no shortage of significant places of Irish history around Dublin, with most of the activity during the Rising taking place on the city’s streets.

The General Post Office on O’Connell Street, Dublin Castle and the Four Courts are among the important places to visit on the 1916 tour.

Dr Amber Cushing and Dr Ben Cowan of UCD are the brains behind the app – and they are eager for the public to help them build it.

Voting is open until October 10 and anyone who wants to choose their favourite sites can go to Site Selection 1916 to cast their vote.

What do you think – which of these sites is most important?
