Teenager Logan Kehoe dies in "accidental drowning" while on holiday in Lanzarote

THE IRISH community in Birmingham is mourning the loss of one of its own after 13-year-old Logan Kehoe died on holiday in Lanzarote.

The teenager was enjoying the final days of his Easter break in the sunny resort of Costa Teguise when he died in an ‘accidental drowning’ on Saturday afternoon (April11).

Spanish Police confirm that emergency services were called to the pool but - despite paramedics performing CPR on the “football-mad” youngster - were unable to save him.

“Emergency services were called to the scene at 14.30pm and tried in vain to revive him using CPR. Every indication is the cause of death was accidental drowning” the Guardia Civil have said.

Friends of the teenager – who attended Bishop Challoner Catholic College – have been posting emotional tributes on his Facebook page since hearing the news of his untimely death.

Kane McMahon said: “Rest in Paradise Logan. Can't believe your gone - football won't be the same without you. Too young to be taken away. It doesn't feel real. You were a real talent. We had the best memories & laughs. Sitting here asking myself 'why you? I hope you’re up there watching down on me bro.”

Niamh O’Neill added: “You were too young to be taken, sleep tight.”

Logan, who has family in Co. Carlow, played in the under-13 team at Birmingham City Football Club, who have also paid tribute to the youngster.

BCFC’s Dean Holtham has said the group was ‘deeply saddened’ to learn of Logan’s death and the club is expected to cancel all its youth league fixtures this weekend as a mark of respect.

Bishop Challoner Catholic College is currently providing support for its staff and students, in light of Logan’s death.

Kevin McEvoy, Head Teacher at the Kings Heath school, said: “We are in close contact with Logan's relatives and our thoughts and prayers are for Logan and his family at this sad time."
