A 19-YEAR-OLD has been hit by a van in Toome in Co. Antrim.
Law and criminology student Shannon McQuillan has died after a collision with a van during a night out with her boyfriend.
The student and her boyfriend, Owen McFerran were hit by a van at 3.40am on Saturday morning, killing McQuillan and leaving McFerran in a critical condition in hospital.
According to Belfast Telegraph, McQuillan is from Dunloy and being mourned by her family and friends.
Sinn Fein MLA Philip McGuigan for North Antrim said the local area were devastated: "I know this young girl and I know her family well. I would be speaking to her father almost on a daily basis.
"She was at university and had a bright future so to have lost her life so young in these circumstances is hard to take. All our thoughts and prayers are with her family who are obviously devastated."
