Teenager charged with assault on Irishman left in critical condition in Liverpool

A LIVERPOOL teenager has been charged in connection with an assault on an Irishman in the city over the weekend.

Kyle Harley,19, will appear before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today on assault charges, after leaving the 24-year-old Cork man with severe injuries.

The assault occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 7) in an alleyway between Fleet Street and Seel Street near The Walkabout bar and the night club Level.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 2.20am and discovered the young Irishman, who was suffering from a head injury.

Merseyside police launched an investigation into the attack and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Two 19-year-olds, including Harley, presented themselves to the police on Sunday (March 8)  and were arrested in connection with the incident.

While the second teenager was released, Harley, of Seymour Street, in the Wirral, will appear before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today in connection with the assault.

“This was a nasty attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the attack,” said Detective Inspector Matthew Kerr.

The victim, who has not been named, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
