A SCIENCE teacher has been banned from the profession for life after he sent a series of sexual messages to pupils over Snapchat after a school prom.
John Flatley, 30, a former teacher at Tolworth Girls' School in Kingston-upon-Thames and Gordon's School in Surrey, was prohibited from teaching for life after a disciplinary panel found him guilty of "unacceptable professional conduct."
While Flatley had left Tolworth Girls' School in December 2014 and began working for Gordon's School in January 2015, he was invited back to his previous school's prom in July 2015.
While at the prom, he exchanged Snapchat contact details with pupils, some of whom he had taught previously, and began sending sexual messages to the girls.
In the case of one girl, Flatley sent messages which said, "U could have sent me some really naughty pics", "I want ur naughty side. I'm sure if we were in bed u might roll on top of me xxx", "Let me inside you" [sic].
Other messages included, "Well you do love ur bed so u might as well spoil me with snaps", "You look amazing", "U look so good" [sic].
He also invited the same pupil to his house as well as on a shopping trip to adult shop Ann Summers.
To a separate girl, Flatley asked: "What do you do in bed" and told her she was "too boring" because she was shy, and that she was not getting him "excited."
He also propositioned the second girl, saying: "We should all meet up and have some beers."
The contact between Flatley and the pupils stopped in September 2015 when a pupil reported incidents of offensive and inappropriate Snapchat messages she had received from Flatley.
Following this, he was suspended from his then-position at Gordon's School.
During a disciplinary hearing in October 2015 at Gordon's School, Flatley admitted the allegations and tendered his resignation.
The panel found that Flatley's messages were sexually motivated, and while the initial contact during prom was ill-judged, his subsequent contact was conscious and calculated.
At the public hearing on March 20, John Flatley, who was present and not represented, admitted to all allegations against him.
On recommendation from the National College for Teaching and Leadership disciplinary panel, John Flatley was banned indefinitely from teaching in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation, or children's home in England and cannot have his eligibility to teach restored at anytime.
He has 28 days to appeal.
