TAOISEACH Simon Harris has pledged Ireland will stand with Ukraine for “as long as it takes” during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
The two leaders signed a joint memorandum on areas of co-operation during the meeting, which included common work on demining Ukraine and on cyber security.
Mr Harris, who announced a €36m package for Ukraine and neighbouring countries during the meeting, said: "The people of Ireland stand with the people of Ukraine."
He added that Ireland supports Ukraine's efforts on EU membership and confirmed that he was “particularly pleased" to invite the Ukrainian leader for an official visit to Ireland.

"Ireland's participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine will be a substantial support for our people and our countries and our European way of life,” Mr Zelensky said.
"I thank the people of Ireland, I know that after the beginning of the invasion of Russia of our land, you've accepted and really have warmly welcomed more than 100,000 citizens of Ukraine."
Ireland’s aid package for Ukraine and its neighbours will provide “essential humanitarian assistance, support rehabilitation and eventual reconstruction, and contribute to Ukraine's longer-term goals, including peace, stability and political aspirations” the Taoiseach’s office confirmed in a statement.

“We have seen the remarkable resilience shown by the people of Ukraine in the face of these challenges,” he added.
“That same determination and resolve will be needed to rebuild their country, with support from international partners, including Ireland.
“We have been unequivocal and steadfast in our support for the people of Ukraine and this additional funding continues to demonstrate that commitment.
“At the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, I committed Ireland’s support for the re-integration of children forcibly deported to Russia and now returned.
“This package includes €2m to support this goal in partnership with UNICEF.”
