THE death has occurred of former Fulham Irish GAA player and Irish model Diarmaid Maher. He was 29.
Maher, a native of Co Waterford, played for Fulham Irish from 2006 until 2010 when he returned to Ireland to pursue a career in modelling. He also starred in the RTÉ reality TV series, Fade Street.
A statement from Fulham Irish said: “Diarmaid graduated from UCC with first class honours degree in Business Information Systems. He moved to London to join the graduate programme at Deloitte.
“Diarmaid joined Fulham Irish GAA in 2006, making the No 9 shirt his own on the march to Intermediate Championship honours in our first year. He continued to play for the club in subsequent years until he moved back to Ireland in 2010 to pursue a different career.
“Diarmaid was an incredible athlete, none more so demonstrated than in the GOAL 5km run at Battersea Park in 2007, when Diarmaid finished third overall, beating some fine elite athletes in the process. All his club friends will remember the big smile always on his face.”
Since 2010 Maher carved out a successful career as a model with prestigious Dublin agency, Assets Models Agency. He also wrote a column for Dublin-based Steller magazine and was once voted Ireland’s ‘second hottest bachelor’.
He was due to turn 30 on June 7, this year.

Rosary will take place tomorrow, Friday, at 9pm at The Kiely Funeral Home, Dungarvan.
Removal from The Kiely Funeral Home on Saturday evening at 7.30pm to Ring Church.
Requiem Mass on Sunday morning at 11.30am. Burial in the New Cemetery, Ring.
