THE STRIKE scheduled for Ryanair pilots later this week has been suspended ahead of talks between the airline and its pilots.
The strike suspension comes just days after Ryanair agreed to recognise workers' unions for the first time in its history.
In a statement last night, IMPACT said the strike planned by the Irish-based pilots was suspended, and talks are to take place on Tuesday evening with Ryanair management.
The union said it acknowledged the principled determination of Ryanair pilots, which it said had made this breakthrough possible, and said it looked forward to establishing a positive relationship with Ryanair company management.
They also said they hoped the suspension of industrial action would remove any uncertainty for passengers intending to travel on Wednesday.
On Friday, Ryanir agreed to recognise pilot unions to avoid widespread disruption to flights over the Christmas period.
The airline announced this morning that it has written to the pilot unions in Ireland, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal inviting each of them to talks to recognise these unions as the representative body for pilots in Ryanair in each of these countries.
The airline said the recognition comes only if unions establish Committees of Ryanair pilots to deal with Ryanair issues, as Ryanair will not engage with pilots who fly for competitor airlines in Ireland or elsewhere.
