DUBLIN Fire Brigade have issued a stark warning to parents after an Elf on the Shelf almost caught fire in an Irish home.
Elf on the Shelf is Santa's special helper despatched from the North Pole each December to help keep an eye on children around the world to make sure they're on the 'nice' list.
The elves, who take up residence in each child's home and cause mischief as they come alive at night, go back to Santa once Christmas is over.
However, for one Elf, she almost had a very different end.
According to Dublin Fire Brigade, the elf had a close one ending up on a lamp.
Luckily, the elf resisted heated for 40 minutes as the homeowner had bought an authentic elf with a CE mark, meaning it conforms with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area.
DFB also encouraged their followers to ensure that all decorations for the holiday season are kept away from heat.

They also enlisted the help of one Elf to give a friendly reminder to test all smoke alarms.
