RYANAIR will appeal a Spanish court ruling that declared advertisements relating to their cabin crew calendars “illegal, discriminatory and unfair”.
The calendars - which have been running since 2008 - raise money for charity and feature female members of the cabin crew in beach wear.
Spokesperson Robin Kiely said: “We have instructed our lawyers to appeal this ruling regarding last year’s cabin crew charity calendar, which raised over €100,000 for a Polish charity, the TVN Foundation, to help sick children in Poland.”
In the court in Malaga, the airline was instructed to stop advertising for the calendar after a formal complaint was made by Spanish consumer group Adecua regarding last year’s advertisements.
Ryanair have stated, however, that they will appeal the ruling and continue to sell the calendars.
The ruling specifically concerns advertisements between November and December 2012 and will not affect the 2014 cabin crew calendar (see pictures below) or Ryanair’s charity work.
The 2014 edition’s proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
